Gunners’ boss Arsene Wenger has revealed he will wait till the end of his contract before entering into negotiations with the club on a new deal.
The French man guided the team to a comprehensive 4-0 win over Aston Villa on the last day of the 2015/2016 securing second position on the league table.
However, fans expectations were high at the beginning of the season and the fans turned against the French man as the team fell out of the title race.
The French man’s future was even thrown into doubt with numerous reports claiming he could be axed this summer. However, with the Frenchman likely to stay at the club next season, it hasn’t stopped talks about his future and there is still some doubt about his long term future as his contract expires at the end of next season.
Reports emerged last week that the manager has been offered a new deal but Wenger has now revealed he won’t enter into negotiations with the club on a new deal until the end of the next season when his contract is about to expire.
“I will wait very late, yes,” he said, as quoted by the Mirror.
“Does that mean no talks with the club next season? Exactly.
“It’s not about me, it’s about the club. My role is just to serve the club as well as I can and after see where I stand and where the club is.
“I have to forget about myself even if people who want to create unrest won’t. I will continue to give my absolute best to do well next season and then after that, we’ll see. Have I decided what I will do privately? No.
“I extended my contract in a period that was vital for the club and after that I will see where I am personally and where the club stands at the end of my contract.”
