Arsene Wenger has apparently set the total number of points he would love the club to target as we aim for the Premier League title this season.

The Frenchman is into his 20th season at Arsenal and is looking to win the league title, having missed out on it in the last twelve seasons.

The boss has now claimed between 82 and 86 points will be enough to win the league this year, meaning that’s the number of points we have to secure to win this year’s title.

Wenger made this claim to reassure us fans that he thinks we are in a better position to win the league this year despite the increased competition in the division.

While stressing the number of points that he believes will clinch the league title for any team this year, Wenger reiterated his belief that we have the best squad in recent years to challenge for titles.

“Today we are in a much more competitive position than we were five or six years ago to fight for the championship,” he said.

“That’s where we are. I believe we have a competitive team in a very competitive league. If you look well after nine games, you can see the first trend is set. It is about 20 points and that means the championship will certainly be decided by 82-86 points and what we have learned since the start of the season, every game you have fight and to absolutely be at your best to have a chance to win it.

“We have to be really focused on details, keeping the energy inside our club but as well much more inside our team at the top level in every single game. Every single detail can make a difference and get you points. We have an important month in front of us because when you look at the schedule, the end of October and November could be important because we have many big games.

“I personally believe that the team has togetherness, unity, desire and hunger. We will have a good chance to compete for the Premier League. Our challenge is of course to compete with absolutely everything starting tomorrow, we play in the League Cup.

“I think we have the squad for the first time that is more mature and better equipped to face the challenges we have.”

We have actually started this season on a bright note sitting amongst the top three teams after nine games. Our only loss this term was the opening day defeat to Liverpool and since then we have been in a good run of form which has seen us win seven of our last eight games.

Should we continue like this, there is no doubt that we will have a big chance of surpassing Wenger’s 86 points mark and celebrating at the Emirates come next year
