Arsenal reportedly looked at potentially signing Juventus striker Paulo Dybala but dropped their interest when the Italians demanded £124million.

Arsene Wenger made strengthening Arsenal’s attacking options one of his major goals during the transfer window and Alexandre Lacazette was signed earlier this month from Lyon for a club record fee but Gunners boss has also been keenly interested in Kylian Mbappe from Monaco.

However the French champions are asking for at least £100m from clubs if they wish to sign the 18-year-old wonderkid.

Wenger also wants to sign Mbappe’s club team-mate Thomas Lemar but has been told to pay £80m for the winger.

And the Guardian have now revealed the Gunners looked at Dybala but Juventus’ £124m asking price led them to end their interest.

Dybala scored 19 goals for Juventus as they won Serie A for the third consecutive season and reached the final of the Champions League.

And the 23-year-old Argentina international is viewed as one of the best strikers in Europe.

The report says Arsenal’s decision to look at Dybala came after they assessed their options if Alexis Sanchez was allowed to leave the club.

But Wenger is determined to keep hold of Sanchez even if it means losing him on a free next summer.

He said: “The decision has been made and we will stick to that. The decision is not to sell.”
