Arsene Wenger has privately given up on Arsenal’s chase for Kylian Mbappe, according to reports.
The Gunners are one of the numerous clubs that have been linked with the French teenager. In the last two weeks, we reportedly tabled two bids worth £90m and £105m for the striker, which was rejected by Monaco.
It was claimed that Arsenal will go toe-to-toe with other clubs for the signature of Mbappe. That show of ambition got many fans excited that finally our club is beginning to challenge rival clubs in the transfer market.
But that joy is set to be truncated as L’Equipe via The Metro claim Wenger have told his close friends that he doesn’t think Mbappe will move to the Emirates this summer.
The report claims Wenger is now resigned to losing a player he has been monitoring for over three years and have conceded defeat in private.
The 19 year old has been on Arsenal’s radar since he was 16 and we even made an attempt to sign him last summer but Monaco were not interested in selling.
His rapid rise in the last 10 months have now placed him on the radar of top clubs to the extent that he is now proving difficult for Arsenal to sign.
Wenger will now turn to other targets as he continues his search for a summer marquee signing.
In my opinion, I’m glad Wenger didn’t spend all that amount on the teenager, I’d prefer the boss spend a little over half of that on signing Aubameyang or Lacazette.
We need a proven goalscorer to push for titles and not someone who has not really been proven asides one bright season.
Gooners, who do you suggest Wenger signs to lead our attack next season.
