Arsene Wenger is open to the idea of managing the England national team, according to reports.
The English FA is in search of a manager to replace Sam Allardyce who stepped down from his post earlier in the week.
It is believed the FA is seriously considering Wenger as his replacement and could approach him about the possibility of taking the job. The French tactician who is in the final year of his contract at Arsenal is yet to indicate whether he will sign a new deal at the Emirates and According to the Daily Star, Arsene Wenger is interested in taking England to the 2018 world cup in Russia.
The French man rejected the chance to replace Roy Hodgson in the summer but has kept the door open for him to take the three Lions job in the future.
The FA on their part are also keen on appointing the French tactician but will have to wait until next summer when his contract expires at the Emirates because Arsenal won’t let him leave without a fight.
Arsenal do not want to lose a manager that has been with the club for 20 years and are even prepared to offer him a new deal. However, Wenger himself is still undecided about his future and he has refused to rule out leaving the Emirates at the end of the season.
After Arsenal’s 2-0 win against Basel on Wednesday, the boss remained coy on his future.
When asked if he was flattered by England’s interest in his services, he replied: “Of course. But my priority has always been this club. Until the end of this season I’m here.’
Arsenal have already lined up AFC Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe as a replacement for Wenger and are currently discussing the possibility of hiring him.
