Arsene Wenger could hand Calum Chambers a chance to rescue his Arsenal future, following the departure of Gabriel Paulista.
Gabriel recently left Arsenal for Valencia on Friday for a £10m fee, leaving a vacuum in Arsenal’s backline. With the transfer window closing in a fortnight, Wenger may find it difficult to bring in the right replacement and that has led the boss to consider offering Calum Chambers the chance to fight for a place in Arsenal’s first team.
Chambers has been linked with a move away from the Emirates all summer, with Crystal Palace said to be in negotiations with Arsenal at some point but the Eagles have been unable to meet the player’s price tag m
According to the Mirror, Wenger has now indicated that Chambers is back in his plans.
The England international who spent last season on loan at Middlesbrough last season was expected to fetch Arsenal around £20m but the club’s decision to sell Gabriel has caused Wenger to rethink his transfer plans.
At 22, Chambers still has enough room to improve and showed in his time at Boro that can be a useful squad player for Arsenal this term. Hopefully, he will take up this opportunity and force his way back into contention at the Emirates.
