Arsene Wenger has spoken about Arsenal’s interest in Monaco’s Thomas Lemar.
In a chat with journalist in his first press conference of the pre-season, Wenger had to answer questions about transfers and was made to throw light on the club’s interest in Monaco’s Lemar, a player who Arsenal have reportedly had two bids worth £31m and £40m rejected for this summer.
It is believed that the French man is Wenger’s top target to replace Alexis Sanchez and he wouldn’t rest until he gets his man.
In the press conference, Wenger admits to liking the winger but stressed that there is nothing concrete yet.
Speaking on the club’s reported rejected bids, Wenger said:
“That’s all speculation at the moment, there is nothing really concrete about any signing. He’s a player that we have looked at, but the rest is only speculation,” he said as quoted by Arsenal official website.
Wenger confirming Lemar is on Arsenal’s radar should mean the club is actually looking to sign him. The boss is never one who brings his transfer dealings to the public and admitting he likes the player alone means there is something cooking.
It remains to be seen whether anything meaningful will develop this summer, should it happen, Lemar could end up smashing the £52m we paid for Lacazette last week as Monaco are insisting he won’t be sold.
