Arsene Wenger has revealed he is still in the market, despite the arrivals of Alexandre Lacazette and Sead Kolasinac.
Arsenal are still being linked with a host of names but no deal is close to completion. Monaco’s Thomas Lemar and Leicester City’s Riyad Mahrez are two players that have featured regularly in the Gunners rumor mill this summer. While the former is a top target of Arsenal, Wenger has denied any interest in the latter.
Wenger has now revealed he is only looking for exceptional signings, ruling out a move for players like Mahrez who he labelled a ‘good player’.
Speaking in his prematch press conference before the game against Leicester City, Wenger told SkySports.
‘We are open to an exceptional player’.
‘However, just to remind you we have 33 players here and they are all good players.
‘That’s unmanageable so to bring one more player in for the sake of it would be stupid, but if we find an exceptional one, we will do it.’
Arsenal played out an entertaining 4-3 victory against Leicester on Friday night. The team showed it’s quality and strength in depth to battle back to secure all three points, after falling behind on two occasions.
Arsenal’s title chances all these years were mostly derailed by poor squad depth but our season opener on Friday showed Wenger has addressed that issue this summer, putting us in a good position to win league title.
One wouldn’t blame him for now looking out for only exceptional players because obviously it’s only going to take top quality to strengthen our first team.
