Deportivo La Coruna president Tino Fernandez has confirmed contact with Arsenal for their former star man but added that his club are unlikely to resign Lucas Perez from Arsenal this summer.
Perez is being linked with a return back to Spain, after a frustrating debut season in the Premier League and Deportivo are one of the clubs he’s been linked to.
It was claimed that his former club and Sevilla were leading the race to sign the striker but it appears Sevilla are now the only one with a chance to sign him after Fernandez revealed that his club’s chances of signing the striker was ‘remote’.
“Lucas is at a great club who made a big financial effort for him, there’s a high level there and also the desire of the club is not to look for an exit,” Fernandez told reporters, as quoted by Sports Mole.
“We’ve spoken to Arsenal, we were interested and we informed them of that, although it’s true that that was days ago and other things have happened since then, like the fact that he will not be with the team for a few games. The possibility of a return to Depor? It’s remote.”
Perez scored 8 goals for Arsenal last season despite his lack of game time and proved that he is still the same man who scored 17 goals for Deportivo in the 2015/2016 season before his move to England.
He was left out of the squad that travelled to Australia on Sunday, meaning a move away from the Emirates is on the cards. Why Deportivo are not confident of signing him is beyond my knowledge but one thing seems certain, Perez won’t be at Arsenal next season.
