Why Arsenal Should Snub This £15M Manchester United & Manchester City Target.

Young Prodigy, Patrick Roberts.

Young Prodigy, Patrick Roberts.

Thanks, but no Pats.

Fulham were dreadfully dreadful last season, and to think it could take all these centuries to get rid of Felix Magath is just equally as dreadful. They are currently sinking at the basement of the Championship and even look favourites for a further drop downwards. They are one of the few London teams you can like, including Arsenal of course, and to see them suffer hurts a little.

Despite the woes, a certain 17-year-old prodigy is attracting bright light from the Craven Cottage as his talent has put a number of Premier League clubs like Arsenal, Manchester United and Manchester City on the alert. He is touted to posses abilities which are supposedly too good for Fulham’s current form.  Fulham have placed a £15 million price tag on him and already look consigned to losing the youngster despite currently being on contract till 2016. After making his debut in the League towards the end of Fulham’s slump last season, his value has quite leaped sky high, with United believed to have even sounded him out. He seems quite a player, but this is one temptation we must overlook.

As good as Patrick Roberts is, having also impressed on International duty with the England Under-17s with whom he scored 7 times in 14 appearances, there are a thousand and one youngsters of equal potential at the Emirates, bidding their time. Roberts is principally a second striker, who can be deployed as well at both sides of the attacking line. While we have Chuba Akpom and Alex Iwobi currently fighting for their places in the team, the likes of Ryo Miyaichi, Benik Afobe and Wellington Silva have been sent out on loan for more first team experience. These lads have shown what capabilities they have and that they are not in the team at the moment is more about launching them in at the right time other than any issues about their potential.

Chuba and Benik, especially, are a special case in point. Properly schooled in playing the Arsenal Way, both are being tipped in some quarters as the prongs of the Arsenal attack in future, the first likened to Thierry Henry and the second to Ian Wright. Going by their recent performances, those projections cannot be regarded as hyped. Afobe is enjoying an excellent loan spell with MK Dons where he has scored as many goals as all our first team strikers combined. His pace and power are certainly those top qualities you need in your target man and while he continues to gain the confidence to put those chances away, it is undoubted that he is one of the stars of the years to come.

Fulham could really do with keeping Patrick Roberts in their ranks at the moment. His genius should be integrated into helping them out of the impoundment from which they seem to be hemmed into at the moment.

He may be that good and we may come later in the future. But, for now, thanks but no thanks.
